May you find love in a hopeless place (cover)

I hope you are warm, safe and loved - or planning to be.

Happy Thanksgiving! I am grateful for where I am today, as confused as I am at times.

However, let us learn to love the questions as much, if not more, than the answers. It is the way to finding balance.

It is getting late, and I am so tired - we shot the cover of the album yesterday, and today was a long day, as well.

And, as promised, here is a cover of We Found Love.

Chronicles

So it has been a whirlwind kind of time since June, really.

We are in the process of posting the issues of Chronicles for September and October. So bear with us!

But here is the Very First One, from our trip to Chicago and Lollapalooza - Chronicles Issue #1.

You can click on it and expand it, by the way.

Designed by the inimitable Missy of i1o2fly, of course:)

Covers

So as some of you already know, I am somewhat in a "covers" phase right now. Of course that does not preclude me from writing more of my own songs - heavens forbid!:)

I guess the goal is to take some of my favorite songs by other people and re-do them - with a twist.

As well as take some other Really Unlikely Songs - what I mean by that is: songs and styles that are normally quite far from my sensibilities -  and re-do them as well.

In the process I get to have fun, learn the nuts and bolts of recording/producing, and hopefully also come up with some neat - and listenable - stuff.

In the pipeline are: another Top 40 hit, a couple of classics, a 90s gem and more...

For now here is the first one - it's David Guetta & Usher's Without You. The original is quite different from this version, which is as I intended it to be.

Now, I know I have asked you this before. But, this is the time and the place to repeat yourself - I do have lists of covers suggested to me by friends and fans - if you are either one of those, or a first-time visitor to this site - please comment below and let me know which cover you really, really want me to do. Merci! xo

back in LaLa

So in the past month... I wrote two songs, got on a plane, flew to London, played two shows, flew to Madrid, saw my mother, walked up and down cobbled streets until I was utterly exhausted, flew back to London and then flew back to Los Angeles to play another show and then wrote another two songs. And followed up by producing & recording two covers, which we will post very soon.

Insert random naps and needless stressing out in between all of the above.

And now we are preparing for the release of the record. January 24th. 2012.

Photos, packaging, ideas, more songs.

And shows.

Click HERE for info on Hotel Cafe December 1st and Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco for December 5th.

Oh - and Capitol Studios session with string quintet next month. It's for an exclusive iTunes release. To be filmed, as well. It is all acoustic, just me+piano+strings. What a treat. The footage and recordings will premiere around the same time as the record itself.

Here are some photos in no particular order - all taken by Missy of i102fly (except maybe the one of the croissant, but I could be mistaken):

before the showcase at East Village in London. It is chilly! I am wearing a jacket.

Missy designed and made this headpiece, and styled me for the performance.

Shoes
She also designed and put together these beautiful shoes for me. I don't know about you, but when I perform, shoes have to match the mood. Well, ideally.

we were walking around Camden Lock, walked into a piano shop and there it was. A SIGN, a SIGN I am telling you!!

Talented Allie Friend accompanied me on acoustic bass and he had great style, as well as a ferociously focused look on his face, while performing. We made a lovely pair, all in all.

Koko crowd
The crowd at Koko was amazing. I felt like I had come home after a long absence.

Missy and I decided that we found our new motto for the Year 2012.

The beautiful Grande Dame of Morcheeba, who I opened for at Koko.

Our hotel was right in front of the Camden Lock. The only downside was that people kept partying until 530AM right underneath our windows. And singing. And drinking. And doing some more singing. And then crying and hugging each other, saying: 'it's ok, I am here for you, baby'...anyway, you get the picture.

And the most perfect thing in the world according to Missy and Myself. Every morning, in the local Italian cafe.

Your Waltz by elizaveta

So I have just been writing a looong entry, with photos and recaps of the past month, which has been quite something, and the coming month, and all that jazz.

But I got tired because I have been writing and recording non-stop for the last three days. So I gave up. The post will go up tomorrow.

Tonight is a full moon. And it's 11/11/11. What is your wish?

I wrote a song - just now. And methinks I am off to bed, because I am exhausted. Maybe I need to exhaust myself working, so I don't get anxious or grumpy. It is entirely possible.

The song just happened. I wrote it in 20 minutes. It felt like... breathing. And now I will sleep the sleep of the blessed workaholics of the world under a full moon. Goodnight.

Your Waltz

I have waited a long time

For someone like you

You are all that I asked for

But I never knew

That like so many gifts

You’re not quite what you seem

You’re a mystery’s child

You’re a beautiful dream

Do you know where you’ve come from

And where you are bound

Are you tired and thinking of settling down

Or like so many boys

It’s adventure you crave

An unbroken horizon

A road unpaved

  There is something about you

That can’t be described

It’s as if all the colors

Are strangely alive

And the painter’s brush

Is a magical tool

But you cannot be captured

You’re nobody’s fool

Do you know where you’re going

I want to come too

I could be your companion

And I would be true

We could sing many songs

We would travel all night

We would sleep in the woods

And  stars would be bright

When you get what you wish for

You don’t always know

If you’ll keep it forever

Or learn to let go

For the lesson is clear

But it hurts nonetheless

So you ask for forgiveness

And wish to confess

But the damage is done

And I hope for the best

When I kiss you goodnight

As I put you to rest

I have waited a long time

And I’ve been redeemed

By a mystery’s child

By a beautiful dream.
